In this stunning debut, Vaishnavi Patel reimagines the life of Kaikeyi, the vilified queen of the Ramayana whose choices set the epic in motion. Born the only daughter among seven brothers and cast aside for her lack of magic, Kaikeyi carves out a place for herself through sheer will, discovering a hidden power that lets her influence the minds of others. Rising to become the most powerful of her husband's queens, she fights for the power to protect the people she loves, only to be forced into a decision that will brand her a villain for generations to come. Feminist, richly mythological, and deeply moving, Kaikeyi gives voice to a woman history chose to vilify.
